# Prologue
Chat, voice call, video call, screenshare, and more. Always free and privacy first. Self-hosted on the web hosting provider or server of your choice. This app is the Prologue, and you and your friends create the story. Enjoy!
## Favorite Features
- **Chat** - Real time messaging with group chats, direct messages, mentions, quotes, reactions, and attachments.
- **Voice and Video Calls** - Whether it's one friend or your whole group, Prologue offers high quality, low latency calling using WebRTC.
- **Screen Share** - Choose from multiple streaming qualities, up to your native resolution at 60FPS. Uses your browsers native interface to allow selection of what to stream.
- **Posts** - Share your thoughts and comments with the rest of your community using a simple X-ish posts system.
## Why Prologue?
- **Free and Open Source** - No subscriptions, no paywalls, no ads.
- **Privacy First** - Prologue is self hosted. You deploy on your own web host, web server, or using Docker. You always retain full control of your data.

## Roadmap
- **0.X.X** (Beta release) You can expect some inconsistencies and imperfections - please use GitHub Issues to report problems or suggest improvements.
- **1.0.0** (Stable release) Estimated by April 1st, 2026. And no, this won't be april fools - your privacy and ownership over your community is serious stuff.
- **Desktop client** (Planning stage) A lightweight desktop client seems to be very important to people, so I've gone ahead and started on that. Estimated release by May 1st, 2026.
- **Multi Language/i18n Support** (Planning stage) More updates regarding this in the future
- **Mobile app** (Please help) If anyone is experienced in this realm, please feel free to post in the forum (Discussions) with any ideas or input on this. Thank you!
