Inspiration
I love the Amazon Kindle Guided View, which zooms into interesting parts of the pages of graphic novels (mangas and comics). It provides a cinematic reading experience and highlights details that can be easily overlooked on small displays but it is limited to selected series.
Therefore I tried to make a similar automated feature that can be universally applied und helps avoid page-wide spoilers.
My app aditionally features an automatic reading mode that displays the next panel after a dynamic amount of time, depending on the size and shape of the panel.
How to use
Controls and Features
- show new graphic novel/chapter: tap on the three dot menu, tap on "choose folder", choose a folder, wait, tap to show first panel
- show next panel: tap on the display
- return to previous panel: long press on panel
- zooming panel: pinching gesture or double tap
- move panel: drag and drop
- automatic reading mode: press "start automatic switching mode" in the menu to change the panel automatically and dynamically every 6 - 22 seconds depending on the panel shape and size. Tap the panel to cancel the mode.
- dynamic color: theme adapts to your Material You color scheme and light/dark mode
- color filter overlay: open the menu, tap on color filter, adjust the argb values, save and tap on the panel to apply the color overlay
- fullscreen view: fling the panel upwards quickly to hide the toolbar and navbar, fling downwards to make them reappear
- choose "jump to.." in the menu to jump to a specific page
Detailed Instructions
- save the graphic novel pages you want to cut as .jpg, .jpeg, .webp or .png files in a folder on your Android smartphone or tablet
- make sure the names of the pages look like this: 001.jpg, 002.jpg,...
- download and install the apk, if you haven't already
- start the app
- tap on the three dot menu in the top right corner
- tap on "choose folder"
- navigate the folder picker dialogue until you've found the folder with the graphic novel pages and confirm your choice
- wait until the loading circle is gone (cutting finished)
- tap the display to show the first panel
Notes
- No graphic novel pages are included
- all graphic novel pages in the folder are sorted and cut in the order of their file names
- make sure the names of the pages look like this: 001.jpg, 002.jpg,...
- tested on Samsung smartphone and tablet
