# iucn-gbif-compare
Comparing IUCN and GBIF species distributions
## Notes on examples
### Hector's Dolphin Cephalorhynchus hectori
One record (from iNaturalist) seems massively out of place for a costal species, see https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/9306481
### Orcaella brevirostris
There has been a taxonomic change with the Australian records treated as a separate species, _Orcaella heinsohni_. Hence GBIF has a more extensive distribution than IUCN.
### Zyzomys argurus
_Zyzomys argurus_ GBIF has in both Australia and South Africa, which is wrong. The species in Africa is _Mus indutus_ (Thomas, 1910) which is erroneously treated as a synonym of _Zyzomys argurus_. I suspect that problem is the subspecies _Mesembriomys argurus indutus_ Thomas, 1909:
_Zyzomys argurus_ (Thomas, 1889)
Table I Figures 2-11, 16-17
_Mus argurus_ Thomas, 1889, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist., Ser. 6, 3: 433-435 _Mesembriomys argurus indutus_ Thomas, 1909, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist., Ser. 8, 3: 151
