# Smart Bookmark Saver Chrome Extension
## About the Extension
Smart Bookmark Saver is a powerful Chrome extension designed to streamline your bookmarking process. It automatically organizes your bookmarks based on custom rules you define, saving you time and keeping your bookmarks tidy.

The extension offers a comprehensive options page where you can:
1. Enable/disable the extension globally
2. Toggle automatic bookmarking and tab closing
3. Create, edit, and delete custom rules
4. Set rule priorities
5. Choose bookmark folders for each rule
6. Backup and restore your settings## How to Use
1. Click on the extension icon to open the popup
2. Use the toggles to enable/disable main functionalities
3. Click "Options" to open the full options page
4. In the options page, create new rules by clicking "Add New Rule"
5. Fill in the rule details:
- URL Domain: The website domain to match
- URL Contains: Specific text to match within the URL
- Rule Priority: Higher numbers take precedence
- Bookmark Folder: Where to save the bookmark
- Action: What to do if the bookmark already exists
6. Enable the rule and choose whether to auto-execute or close the tab
7. Save your changes## Example Use Cases
1. **Work-Related Pages**:
- Rule: Domain of your company's website
- Action: Save to "Work" folder
- Auto-execute but don't close tab for immediate access2. **Research Articles**:
- Rule: URLs containing "research" or "study"
- Action: Save to "Research" folder
- Auto-execute and close tab to reduce clutter3. **Shopping Sites**:
- Rule: Domains of favorite shopping sites
- Action: Save to "Shopping" folder
- Don't auto-execute, allowing manual decision4. **News Articles**:
- Rule: URLs containing "news" or domains of news sites
- Action: Save to "News" folder
- Auto-execute and replace existing bookmarks to avoid duplicates5. **Recipe Sites**:
- Rule: URLs containing "recipe" or "cooking"
- Action: Save to "Recipes" folder
- Auto-execute but don't close tab for easy reference while cooking## Keyboard Shortcut
To set up a custom keyboard shortcut for quick access:
1. Open the extension's options page
2. In the "Global Options" section at the top, find the custom shortcut input
3. Click the "Set Shortcut" button next to the input field
4. Press your desired key combination (e.g., Ctrl+Shift+B)
5. The shortcut will be saved automaticallyYou can now use this custom shortcut to quickly apply bookmarking rules to the current page.
## Installation Instructions
1. Download the repository as a ZIP file
2. Unzip the file to a location on your computer
3. Open Google Chrome and navigate to `chrome://extensions`
4. Enable "Developer mode" in the top right corner
5. Click "Load unpacked" in the top left corner
6. Select the unzipped folder containing the extension files
