# luvit-redis - fast luvit redis client.
This is a redis client for `luvit` which under the hood uses offical `hiredis` c library
what makes it pretty fast (see benchmarks below).## Installation
### from git
git clone https://github.com/twojcik/luvit-redis
make## Usage
Simple example, included as examples/exampe.lua:
```lua
local redis = require('redis')local client = redis:new()
client:on("error", function (err)
print("Error (error callback): ", err)
end)client:set('test-key','luvit-rocks', redis.print)
client:hset("hash key", "hashtest 1", "some value", redis.print)
client:hset("hash key", "hashtest 2", "some other value", redis.print)
client:hkeys("hash key", function (err, replies)
print(#replies.." replies:")
for i,v in ipairs(replies) do print(i,v) end
end)```
This will display:tadek@ubuntudev:~/Projects/luvit-redis$ luvit examples/example.lua
```## Sending Commands
Each Redis command is exposed as a function on the `client` object.
All functions take variable number of individual arguments followed by an **optional callback**.Example:
client:mset("test keys 1", "test val 1", "test keys 2", "test val 2", function (err, res) end)
For a list of Redis commands, see [Redis Command Reference](http://redis.io/commands)
The commands can be specified in uppercase or lowercase for convenience, `client:get()` is the same as `client:GET()`.
## API
### Connection events
`client` object will emit some events about the state of the connection to the Redis server.
#### "connect"
`client` will emit `connect` event when first write event is received (stream is connected to redis).
#### "disconnect"
`client` will emit `disconnect` event when connection is disconnected (per user request).
#### "error"
`client` will emit `error` when encountering an error with connection to the Redis server.
Note that "error" is a special event type in luvit. If there are no listeners for an "error" event, luvit will exit.
### redis:new(port, host, autoReconnect)
Create a new client connection. `port` defaults to `6379` and `host` defaults
to `127.0.0.1`. If you have `redis-server` running on the same computer as luvit, then the defaults for
port and host are probably fine.#### autoReconnect
luvi-redis has autoReconnect functionality to `redis-sever` build in. You can turn it off by setting 'autoReconnect' to false.
(TODO: add more explanation how it works.)### client:registerCommand(...)
(todo)### client:command(...)
(todo)
### client:disconnect()When this function is called, the connection is not immediately terminated.
Instead, new commands are no longer accepted and the connection is only terminated when all
pending commands have been written to the socket,
their respective replies have been read and their respective callbacks have been executed.### redis.print()
A handy callback function for displaying return values when testing.
`new()` returns a `RedisClient` object that is named `client` in all of the examples here.
