** Rationale

   Syntax highlighting [[http://www.linusakesson.net/programming/syntaxhighlighting/index.php][is harmful]].

   

   Disabling [[https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/html_node/emacs/Font-Lock.html][font-lock-mode]] doesn't offer the same flexibility. It disables useful

   and convenient things that are not syntax highlighting: italics and underlined

   links in [[http://jblevins.org/projects/markdown-mode/][markdown-mode]], [[orgmode.org][org-mode]] transformations, [[https://github.com/clojure-emacs/cider][CIDER]] error highlighting, etc.
