# Open Geospatial Data Download Catalog



Below are the major sources of open geospatial data download sites. If you know more, please send a pull request to this repo.



- **[Copernicus Open Access Hub](https://dataspace.copernicus.eu/)**  

  The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem provides access to Earth observation data from the Copernicus Sentinel satellites. Available products: Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3, Sentinel-5P.

- **[CKAN](https://demo.ckan.org/dataset)**  

  This is a demo site for CKAN, the leading Open Data portal software. Data hosted on this site might be deleted at any time!

- **[data.gov.au](https://data.gov.au/)**  

  Data.gov.au is the central source of Australian open government data. Anyone can access the anonymized public data published by federal, state, and local government agencies.

- **[DIVA-GIS](https://www.diva-gis.org/Data)**  

  DIVA-GIS is a free computer program for mapping and geographic data analysis. With DIVA-GIS, you can make maps of the world or very small areas using state boundaries, rivers, satellite images, and the locations of sites where an animal species was observed.  

  **Data:** administrative boundaries, roads, railroads, altitude, land cover, population density, elevation data (90m resolution), global climate data



- **[EOS Data Analytics](https://eos.com/)**

  EOS Data Analytics is a leading expert in satellite data analytics, with a deep focus on agriculture and forestry. Within sustainability vision, they use GIS data to globally drive business profits while preserving the environment.

  **Data:** Satellite data for vegetation, climate, and land cover



- **[FAO GeoNetwork](http://www.fao.org/geonetwork/srv/en/main.home)**  

  It is the portal of free GIS data from the United Nations. The focus of GeoNetwork is to improve global sustainable development, such as global agriculture, food security, and fisheries.

- **[GADM](https://gadm.org/data.html)**  

  Global administrative boundaries, with extensive attribute sets. Covers countries and up to four levels of internal administrative boundaries (states, departments, counties, etc.).

- **[Geofabrik](http://download.geofabrik.de/)**  

  OSM data extracts that are updated daily.

- **[Global Forest Watch](https://www.globalforestwatch.org/)**

  Forest Monitoring Designed for Action.

  Global Forest Watch offers the latest data, technology and tools that empower people everywhere to better protect forests.

- **[Global Land Use Dataset](http://nelson.wisc.edu/sage/data-and-models/global-land-use/grid.php)**  

  Gridded data at 0.5-degree resolution showing population density, potential natural vegetation, cropland extent, grazing land extent, built-up land extent, crop extent (for 18 major crops), and land suitability for cultivation.  

  **Data:** vegetation, cropland extent, built-up land extent, etc.



- **[Google Earth Engine (GEE)](https://code.earthengine.google.com/)**

  Google Earth Engine combines a multi-petabyte catalog of satellite imagery and geospatial datasets with planetary-scale analysis capabilities. Scientists, researchers, and developers use Earth Engine to detect changes, map trends, and quantify differences on the Earth's surface. Earth Engine is now available for commercial use, and remains free for academic and research use.

  **Data:** Satellite imagery (.tiff), vector files (.shp, .geojson)



- **[HOT Export Tool (OSM Data)](https://export.hotosm.org/en/v3/)**  

  The Export Tool is an open service that creates customized extracts of up-to-date OSM data in various files. Download and use the data simply by crediting the OpenStreetMap contributors.  

  **Data:** shapefile (.shp), GeoPackage (.gpkg), Garmin (.img), Google Earth (.kml), OSM (.pbf), MAPS.ME (.mwm), OsmAnd (.obf), MBTiles (.mbtiles)



- **[Humanitarian Data Exchange](https://data.humdata.org/)**  

  The Humanitarian Data Exchange (HDX) is an open platform for sharing data across crises and organizations.  

  **Data:** .shp, .tif, .csv, .xls, .pdf



- **[LandsatLook](https://landsatlook.usgs.gov/explore)**  

  USGS portal to download and explore Landsat-related datasets.  

  **Data:** Landsat (.tiff)



- **[National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) GEOnet Names Server (GNS)](https://geonames.nga.mil/geonames/GNSHome/index.html)**

  Use the Geographic Names Search Application to query the GNS database. Users can search, discover, view, and download geographic names from around the world. Search options allow for selections by name, country, administrative divisions, feature/name characteristics, and spatial filtering.

  **Data**: Geographic feature names worldwide



- **[Natural Earth](https://www.naturalearthdata.com/downloads/)**  

  Data themes are available in three levels of detail. For each scale, themes are listed on Cultural, Physical, and Raster category pages.

- **[MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer)](https://modis.gsfc.nasa.gov/)**

  MODIS (or Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is a key instrument aboard the Terra (originally known as EOS AM-1) and Aqua (originally known as EOS PM-1) satellites.

  Provides a portal to high spatial resolution topographic data and tools.

- **[OS Data Hub](https://osdatahub.os.uk/downloads/open)**

  Great Britain’s Geospatial Data platform. Supports APIs and UI to download the dataset.

- **[OSM Metro Extracts](https://www.interline.io/osm/extracts/)**  

  City-sized extracts of the OpenStreetMap dataset, updated weekly for cities across the world.  

  **Data:** .geojson, OSM (.PBF)



- **[PALSAR Forest/Non-Forest Map](https://www.eorc.jaxa.jp/ALOS/en/palsar_fnf/fnf_index.htm)**  

  A very detailed (50m resolution) forest map for the whole globe, created from SAR data.  

  **Data:** PSRFITS



- **[SASPlanet](https://gisenglish.geojamal.com/2018/06/download-sas-planet-nightly-all.html)**  

  SASPlanet is a program designed for viewing and downloading high-resolution satellite imagery and conventional maps submitted by such services as Google Maps, DigitalGlobe, Kosmosnimki, Yandex.Maps, Yahoo! Maps, VirtualEarth, Gurtam, OpenStreetMap, eAtlas, Genshtab maps, iPhone maps, Navitel maps, Bing Maps (Bird's Eye), etc.

- **[Terra Populus](https://terra.ipums.org/)**  

  Terra Populus (TerraPop) integrates census data from over 160 countries around the world, spanning up to six decades for household-level and aggregate data for more than 80 countries.

- **[UNEP Environmental Data Explorer](http://geodata.grid.unep.ch/)**  

  The Environmental Data Explorer is the authoritative source for datasets used by UNEP and its partners in the Global Environment Outlook (GEO) report and other integrated environment assessments.  

  **Data:** climate, disaster, ecosystem, etc. (mostly global extent)

  A wide range of data from the United Nations Environment Programme, including Nighttime Lights, Pollutant Emissions, Commercial Shipping Activity, Protected Areas, and Administrative Boundaries.  

  **Data:** environment, oceans, elevation, society, climatology, meteorology



- **[UNEP WCMC](http://datadownload.unep-wcmc.org/datasets)**  

  Variety of datasets from the United Nations Environment Programme, including global wetlands, global distribution of coral reefs, mangrove distributions, and more.  

  **Data:** dryland, biogeographic, mountains, forest, wetland



- **[USGS Earth Explorer](https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/)**  

  For satellite and aerial imagery, the USGS Earth Explorer is one of the largest free sources of data.  

  **Data:** Landsat (.tiff), Sentinel (.tiff), DEM (.tiff), point cloud (.tiff), aerial imagery



- **[World Borders Dataset](http://thematicmapping.org/downloads/world_borders.php)**  

  World country borders with attributes including country codes (FIPS, ISO, etc.), area, and populations.  

  **Data:** administrative boundary (.shp)



- **[WorldClim](https://www.worldclim.org/data/index.html)**

  WorldClim is a database of high spatial resolution global weather and climate data. These data can be used for mapping and spatial modeling.

  **Data:** Global climate data: temperature, precipitation, and more



- **[World Resources Institute (WRI)](https://www.wri.org/data/data-products)**  

  WRI has long been committed to providing open access to reliable data for actionable change. In support of that mission, WRI has worked with dozens of partners to build a suite of data products that take data from across the institute and around the world to break down siloes and enable transparent decision making.
